On the 2022 Gordon Research Conference on Liquid Phase Electron Microscopy (LPEM) in Ventura, California (USA), GRK1896 doctoral candidate Birk Fritsch was honored with a Poster Award. Birk presented a tool for Automated Radiation Chemistry simuluations (AuRaCh) that simplifies the assessment of irradiation-induced changes in chemistry during LPEM. The approach was experimentally quantified on nanoparticle evolution in aqueous solutions of tetrachloroauric acid (HAuCl4) performed in graphene-supported microwell liquid cells at IMN.

Birk’s poster was part of an orchestrated series of five contributions presented alongside with Andreas Körner, Dr. Andreas Hutzler and Dr. Thaïs Couasnon. The collaboration of researchers from FAU, in cooperation with Helmholtz Institue Erlangen-Nürnberg for Renewable Energiy (HIERN) and Helmholtz Centre Potsdam GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences was dedicated to access electron beam-induced radiation chemistry.

Further information on quantitative assessment on radiation chemistry of HAuCl4 in liquid-phase transmission electron microscopy can be found here. AuRaCh itself can be downloaded on GitHub.

Congratulations, Birk!
